Robert Hanseman, known to friends as Bob, is a candidate for a seat on Ohio's 2nd District Court of Appeals. He has 27 years of experience as a working attorney and was previously appointed as Judge on the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas.He grew up in the Dayton area and attended Fairborn High School, then graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.A. in Journalism and Political Science, and from the school of law at George Washington University. 

 

Bob was selected as a White House intern during the presidency of the "first" President George Bush. He entered the Air Force in 1996 as a JAG officer and was promoted to Captain. His assignments included serving as a prosecutor at Sheppard Air Force Base, where he was the trial attorney for many Special and General Court Martial cases and Administrative Discharge Boards. He was also appointed as special assistant US Attorney for the Northern District of Texas and prosecuted over 80 criminal cases.  

 

Bob transferred to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio in 1998 and joined the Air Force Materiel Command’s trial team and defended the Air Force against claims brought by contractors. After leaving the Air Force, he joined the Dayton-based law firm of Sebaly, Shillito and Dyer, where he specializes in business litigation and Government Contracts, representing both individuals and businesses. Bob has litigated disputes in front of multiple federal agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals, and the Government Accountability Office. He has written articles for the Air Force Law Review and the American Bar Association’s publication “Procurement Lawyer”. He is a member of the Dayton Bar Association and was appointed to multiple terms on the DBA's Certified Grievance Committee.  

 

While serving as a judge, Bob upheld the integrity and fairness of the Montgomery County court system. As a judge on the 2nd District Court of Appeals, he will work to ensure that all persons who have appeared before the courts of Montgomery, Greene, Clark, Miami, Darke and Champaign counties receive fair treatment from the courts and work to resolve any injustices. Bob believes in our system of government, including our most basic freedoms as reflected in the Bill of Rights, and will uphold both the federal and Ohio constitutions. Bob met his wife Leah, a Registered Nurse while they were both in the Air Force. They have been married for 25 years and have three daughters, ages 14, 17 and 21.
